KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor police chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed has clarified that the total number of victims in the deadly Batang Kali landslide is 92 instead of the previously reported 94.
Speaking to reporters at the site of the tragedy today, he said that authorities had known the figure a few days ago but did not announce it because checks had to be carried out first.
“Confusion arose due to overlapping registrations at the campsite,” he said briefly, assuring that efforts to search for the remaining victims will continue.
With the updated tally, only one victim has yet to be found.
It is believed that the final victim is the 11-year-old son of a SJK (C) Mun Choong canteen operator.
Earlier today, the search-and-rescue team had found four more bodies, all wrapped in a tent, 7m deep in Sector C of the incident site in Father’s Organic Farm, Batang Kali.
According to police, the four bodies were brought out of the search zone at 11.51am and sent to Sg Buloh Hospital for post-mortem and identification.
The number of fatalities now stands at 30 people, consisting of 14 women, six men, six boys and four girls. – The Vibes, December 22, 2022
